Detailed itinerary of the 4 days Virunga gorillas tour
Day 1: Kigali city tour & drive to Congo
Get a warm welcome from your driver guide and later, briefing on your 4 days Virunga gorillas. After, begin your exploration with Kigali city expedition-go visit Kigali/Gisozi genocide site to learn more about 1994 genocide in Rwanda, visit the former presidential palace, city market, craft shops and others.
Connect to nearby hotel for lunch and after, leave Kigali Rwanda for Congo Virunga National Park. Clear at the border (ensure you have the yellow fever vaccination certificate) and drive to Virunga National Park in Eastern DRC.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking Congo & tour the Senkwekwe center
Have an early morning breakfast and later, have your packed lunch plus water then head to Virunga park offices. Be at briefing point early and get to know what things to do and not to day while on a trek to see mountain gorillas. At 8:00am, after you have been assigned to any of the park’s 8 habituated gorilla families, go on your trek that lasts for 2-6 hours.
The maximum time allowed for you to have a face-to-face encounter with mountain gorillas once you find them is 1 hour. After, you return to get refreshment at the lodge and for those of you who are within Mikeno Lodge, you can easily connect to Senkwekwe Centre-the world’s only mountain gorilla orphanage centre.

Day 3: Climb up to the summits of Nyiragongo volcano
After you have enjoyed your breakfast, proceed to briefing point where hikes to Nyiragongo volcano begin. You will spend 4-7 hours climbing to the summits of Nyiragongo mountain although this may depend on your overall fitness. Once you get to the volcano’s top, you have breathtaking view of Virunga National Park, Goma Town, Rwenzori mountain ranges, Lake Kivu and a lot more. You will amazing evening experience viewing the bubbling Lava Lake, taking photos and later retire for the night at Nyiragongo volcano summit cabins.
Day 4: Descend from Mt. Nyiragongo & back to Kigali Rwanda
Begin your hike back to briefing point starting at 8:00am. Arrive early and begin your return trip to Kigali for drop off to the airport or hotel and this marks the end of your 4 days Virunga gorillas.
